The first message to a Kuwait employer
Most applications die in the first six lines. Not because you lack experience — because the message looks like it was sent to forty other numbers. This is how to write one that belongs to this listing.
One listing, one paragraph
Open the job. Steal three facts from it: the area, the duty, the hours if they exist. Put those facts in your first lines so the owner knows you are not a bot. “I can start immediately, hard worker, please call” is the sound of a copy-paste. “Salmiya sweets counter, I have run a till in Hawalli for two years, Friday off is fine” is a person.
Name, Kuwait number, citizen or resident, and the bit of work that matches. That is the whole first message for a restaurant or a driver ad. Office roles can take a second paragraph and a PDF. They still should not take your life story and a photo of a certificate from 2014 as the only attachment.
What to put in, what to leave out
You may ask one pay question if the ad hid the number: “What is the monthly figure, and is a room included?” One. Not a list of allowances. Not a threat to walk if they do not answer in ten minutes. Owners of small shops read messages after closing, not during the lunch line.
- In: the job title as written on OnKuwait, so they can find the ad you mean.
- In: light or heavy Kuwait licence for driving roles; menu type for kitchens; English and Arabic for offices.
- In: whether you already live in Kuwait if they asked, or “Kuwaiti citizen” if that is you.
- Out: your bank PIN, Civil ID in the first blast, and a demand for a salary they have not printed.
- Out: insults about your last boss. Everyone has one. This is not the place.
WhatsApp versus the form versus email
If the listing has a form, use it. That is the path we can see if something goes wrong. WhatsApp is faster for kitchens and cars. Keep the first WhatsApp as clean as an email: no stickers, no “bro”, no voice note until they voice-note you. Email for clinics and offices can carry the PDF. Name the file with your name, not “CV final final 3”.
If a different number replies claiming they are “HR for OnKuwait”, they are not. We do not staff a call centre that collects deposits. Open the listing again. Use the contact printed there. Report the other number.
After they reply
Confirm time and place in writing. A landmark beats “I will WhatsApp you the pin at 6”. If they move the meeting to a car or a locked flat, reread the safe-search page and take your no. If they confirm a shop you can walk into, go on time. Kuwait traffic is not a personality. Leave earlier.
Do not send ten follow-ups in a day. One reminder after two silent days is human. Five reminders is how you get muted. If the apply button disappears, the role is filled or the ad came down. Stop writing to the old number as if the internet owes you a sequel.
A shape you can copy, then ruin by making it yours
“Hello — I am [name], Kuwaiti / resident on [type]. I am writing about [exact title] in [area]. I have [two years] as [role] in [place in Kuwait]. Licence / menu / Arabic and English: [one line]. I can start [date]. Number: [Kuwait mobile].” Then stop. If they want the PDF they will ask, or you attach it on email without a speech.
If you cannot fill those brackets from your real life, do not invent them. Invented licences last until the first road. Invented Arabic lasts until the first customer. This board is small. People talk.
Messages we see that never get a job
The empty “interested” on a night-guard ad. The CV that still opens with an objective about “seeking a challenging role in a multinational”. The voice note in a language the listing did not use, sent to a shop that wrote in Arabic on purpose. The follow-up every twenty minutes. The salary demand in the first line when the card already printed 190.
Employers on this board are often the same person who unlocks the shutter. They read on a cracked phone after 11 p.m. Give them something they can answer with one thumb: yes, come at 4, bring the licence. If your message needs a coffee to decode, it dies in the unread pile next to forty other “interested”.
If you are applying for two similar jobs, change the area name. Sending “I am good for Salmiya” into a Fahaheel ad is how people get muted in bulk. Copying last week’s paragraph is fine if you change the three facts. Copying it unchanged is the bot sound again.
Do not attach a Civil ID and a passport and a bank letter in the first blast. The safe-search page exists because those files travel. A serious owner will ask after they have a time and a place. A thief asks before they have a door you can knock on.
If they reply with a different salary and a request to confirm by paying, stop. That conversation is not a negotiation. Open the listing, use Report, and write to the next ad with the same short paragraph. There will be another till, another car, another kitchen. There will not be another Civil ID if you already mailed it to a stranger. One listing, one paragraph, one number that matches the page. That is the whole method. If you cannot see the job on onkuwait.com while you type, you are writing into a forward. Open the title on the site and start the six lines again. That extra minute costs less than a document in the wrong chat. Then wait. Do not send the paragraph twice in ten minutes. That is enough for the first day on this board.
